What Does Swelling On The Left Side Of The Face Indicate?

I have swelling on the left side of my face. It appeared soon after I started eating my evening meal. It is not in my jaw, but the swelling is from my jaw line up to my ear. When I opened my mouth to take a bite I could feel something was wrong, I first felt it in my ear. When I put my hand up to my ear I could feel the swelling & when I looked in the mirror I was shocked to see how swollen the side of my face (left side) was. I am a 69 yo female.
I have had allergic reactions before. I just took 2 benadryl capsules.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Your symptoms can be due to obstruction in the duct of the salivary gland due to either foreign body obstructing the salivary gland or stone formation in the gland.

Other cause can be allergic reaction to any food that you recently consumed..

So it is advisable to consult an Emergency Room and get evaluated..

If there is obstruction in the duct of the gland then it can be either removed manually and surgically..
In case of allergic reaction, anti-allergics can help in improvement..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
