What Does Swelling In The Legs Indicate?

I hit my left leg a couple of weeks ago and it did not break the skin, just left a bruise. My leg has proceeded to swell on and off and the area around the bruise has a small knot. Should I go to the doctor to have my leg looked at. I am worried that it may be a blood clot.

General Surgeon 's  Response
You could be having a hematoma at the site of the bruising. Usually these resolve on its own. Additionally it is possible that you are having bacterial inflammation if the site. You may dress the wound aseptically with Mupirocin ointment. Take rest. If the hematoma is increasing, or the infection is increasing, please consult a General Surgeon, who would incise and drain the hematoma under local anesthesia, and advise appropriate antibiotics.
