What Does Swelling In The Hands And Legs Indicate?

76 year old male with swollen hands and legs, staring blankly, does respond to knowing his name, knows me his sister, vitals were normal at 10am, now, blood pressure, put on oxygen, anemic, not eating, trouble swallowing. At a nursing home, was told that they did not think he had suffered a stroke.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Your patient might be suffering from renal failure, we cannot comment on swelling of hand and foot.

As these things occurs mainly in three conditions:
Renal failure
Cardiac failure
Liver disease

In your case, chances of renal failure with ureamic symptoms are more.
Tests to be done are:
1) Renal function test
2) 24 hr urine out put

Let us know the BP of the patients and all the above details after check up.
We will advise u a treatment.
Take care of your patient.

Thank u
