What Does Swelling In The Cheeks Indicate?

Hi - my cheeks inside my mouth have been swollen since June 18th and I can actually see the gland opening on each side by my upper teeth as it's so swollen. The left side is more swollen and I have a pain in my upper left eyebrow all day every day except when I am sleeping. I've had 3 Cscans and a MRI and all they show is a thickening of the skin by my sinus - I've also gone to a Oral Surgeon and a Ear/Nose/Throat specialist who put me on a steroid for a week and that was it. I don't really know where else to turn....The Oral Surgeon said my sinus hangs down low...Thank you.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It looks like there is infection and inflammation in your sinuses and as they lie very close to the upper teeth, therefore you can observe swelling in that area and along with it, there is also pain and discomfort..

So taking steroid pack can reduce the swelling and inflammation but in order to resolve infection and heal permanently you should also be advised a course of antibiotics like Augmentin and anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen..

Along with it doing steam inhalations and saline nasal irrigation will help in relieving the symptoms faster..

You can also get your teeth checked as infection in upper teeth can also cause infection in the sinuses due to close proximity of the root tips to the sinuses..

In case if it does not improve with medicines the Endoscopic sinus surgery can be advised..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
