i have a stabbing pain on the right side of my back which gets worse when I lie down. If I stretch my back, I find it hard to breathe and it itches all the time. It use to be only at night in bed, but it is constant all day long now. I am a breast cancer survivor since March of 2012.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is nice to know that you are a breast cancer survivor since 2012. Presently, you are experiencing stabbing pain in the side of the back (right side). Your symptom may be indicative of physical conditions like pinched nerves, muscular back pain, herniated discs, spinal arthritis, etc. Other medical conditions that may cause similar symptoms are blood clot, cancer (secondary manifestation), developing CAD, stroke, neurological pain, etc.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP or an Oncologist. Get all required tests, blood workouts and investigations, imaging tests done to detect the pathology causing you symptoms. You will be treated accordingly. Stay away from anxiety, stress (emotional and physical). Take adequate rest at night. Stay away from addictions if any. Take home made nutritious food. Walk regularly in the morning and evening.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
