What Does Sore Throat Along With Pain In The Tonsils Indicate?

hi, for a while i thought i had a sore throat but then i realized it was actually my tonsil hurting. i have very large, rough tonsils and i do get tonsils stones. after picking around a bit i uncovered a huge tonsil stone that was starting to turn a blacking green color, could this be mold? also the minute i removed the tonsil stone my tonsil almost completely stopped hurting.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your complaint, it seems that a sore throat is due to tonsil stones only. It does not look like mold and is a large tonsil stone only. It is a potent cause for infection and inflammation of tonsils and bad breath.

A sore throat that is recurring is most probably due to tonsil stones. I would suggest you remove the tonsil stones using a q-tip. In order to reduce its formation, you should do warm saline gargles. Gargle with 1:1 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water. Always gargle with water after meals. Limit intake of dairy products.

In case if they are not being removed, you should consult an ENT physician and get evaluated and they can remove it manually using fine tweezers. In case if still, the problem does not resolve then the last result is to get the tonsils removed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
