Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My girlfriend just informed me she s been having smelly discharge from her vagina. It s been going on for a few months. We ve been together for a couple of years and I was tested for std s before her and I got together and I have no symptoms. I ve been reading about chlamidia and how it can have no symptoms. I ve been on antibiotics for other infections in the time we ve been together. Is it possible I could have given it to her?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern... Smelly vaginal discharge can be due to Chlamydia infection. It is possible that you might not have any other symptom at all as in your case. Chlamydia infection is transmitted through sexual intercouse so If your girlfriend has it then you must get yourself checked for it. You need a visit to gynecologist for proper diagnosis & treatment . She will have the benefit of physical examination and diagnostic procedures to reach to a diagnosis.
As the treatment, I would have prescribed you clindamycin antibiotic to be taken orally if not allergic to. There is another differential diagnosis and that is yeast infection of vagina and needs antifungals like Clotrimazole vaginal creams to be applied in vagina.
Don't worry you would be fine Hope this information helps.
