What Does Slight Bulging And Degeneration Of L1-L5 Mean?

i have lower back pain which leads to sharp pain/numbness shooting down mainly my right leg all the way to my foot. i ve had no trauma which would result in any pain and have had both a e-ray and MRI showing slight bulging and degeneration of L1 thru L5. this seems like to me to be nerve pain maybe my sciatic nerve, who should i go to see for treatment Orthopedic, neurologist or pain management doctor?

Hi,
Welcome To HCM & Thanks For Asking Your Query Here

let me clear it for you
Our back bone is made up of small bones called vertebrae and between each vertebrae there is a inter vertebral Disc (IVD) made up of soft tissue and this IVD absorb shock and make our back bone flexible
as Your MRI is showing bulging and degeneration of L1-L5 , means the IVD between your Lower spinal vertebraes are bulging and degenerating , which in term causing extra pressure on spinal nerve roots
this extra pressure on nerves is causing your symptoms

I would strongly advise You to consult with a Neuro Spine surgeon for this , However this condition is very well treatable by medicine and rest along with physiotherapy but if you are a old person with severe bulging and degeneration than you may need surgery for it
Now a days out come of surgeries are also very good

so please have a visit to Neuro Spine surgeon to get it further evaluated

I hope it help
