What Does Signs Is Ischemia Mean As The Scheduled Surgery Was Cancelled For This Reason?
I was scheduled for surgery Wednesday morning, and at the last minute this afternoon, it was canceled. The anesthesiologist said that I had an irregular ekg and showed signs of ischemia. The information was delivered to me via a receptionist and she couldn't answer any questions. They will not reschedule surgery until I am cleared by a cardiologist.. I am 64 years old, blood pressure 120/80 and cholesterol of 168, and otherwise very healthy. What does this mean to me and what can I expect to happen in the future.
According to your symptoms you have been diagnosed to have ischemia for the first time. It means there is mismatch between the oxygen need and demand in the myocardial tissue.
During surgery or during the period of anaesthesia due to stress and strain there will be adrenergic outburst which causesmlot of variations which may worsen the ischemia. That is why you have been advised to get cardiologist opinion.
Youwill be alright dont worry. Just undergo all routine cardiac evaluation such as 2d echo and tread mill test.
Thanks
