What Does Sharp Pain And Numbness In Thighs Indicate?

I recently developed an infectious boil under my arm and had to hospitalized to recieve liquid antibiotics. I also underwent minor surgery to drain the boil (Sept 5). Since then I have been experiencing severe/sharp pain in my left thigh. It doesn t feel like a muscle issue, it actually feels like some type af nerve problem. My thigh also feels numb/hard. What could these systoms be?

Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
It seems that you are suffering from mono-neuritis. It might have been caused by some inadvertent IM Injection (as you mentioned about liquid antibiotic administration) in your left gluteal region(buttock) and injuring the left sciatic nerve.
When giving gluteal injections, it is safest to use the upper outer quadrant.
Injury to the sciatic nerve is associated with use of the dorsogluteal site for injection, because the sciatic nerve commonly courses this site.
Neurological sequelae can range from minor transient sensory disturbance to severe sensory disturbance and paralysis, with poor recovery.
If there is no history of gluteal site injection.then your left sciatic pain is unrelated and to be investigated for radiculopathy.
