What Does Severe Pain In The Laryngeal Prominence Indicate?

I have considerable pain, localized to the right of my Adam s Apple in my neck. It does not feel like normal sore throat. The pain increase when swallowing and radiates up to underneath my chin and down to my collar bone when swallowing. To describe it feels as if a tendon or vein is aching on vertical line under the surface of the skin but not in my throat. The pain is dulled slightly but resitant to pain killers such as Ibuprofen and Aleve. Any ideas as to what may be the cause? Thanks

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

You may be suffering from laryngitis or thyroiditis or condritis etc. Use salt water gargling, water vapour inhalation thrice a day for five days.

Use pain reliever medication. If symptoms not improved please consult your ENT specialist he will do an ultrasound of thyroid and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
