What Does Severe Pain In The Knees Indicate?

My knee hurts really bad on the side (inside). It hurts to walk, stiffens if I sit too long and I can t put my full weight on it. When I try to go up the stairs, it doesn t bend well. I can t fully bend it and when I try, it feels a little numb. What type of doctor should I go to?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The symptoms you have mentioned typically suggestive of osteoarthritis which is nothing but due to wear and tear of knee joint. You can consult an orthopedic for detailed evaluation, you have to take an MRI scan to rule out other conditions causing similar symptoms. As of now you can take analgesics like ibuprofen or Diclofenac for pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
