What Does Presence Of White Mucus At The Back Of Throat Indicate?

YYYY@YYYY . Hi doc. I have this problem at the back of my throat, white mucus like, smells bad, form there occasionally and forms pits on my tonsils. Now it gets to the point it ache as well as my neck muscle. What causes this and how serious is this matter and whats my treatment/solution?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain white mucous at the back of throat that smells bad and also forms on tonsillar crypts or pits seems to be Tonsil stones or Tonsilloliths..

Tonsil stones are formed when debris gets accumulated over the tonsils which gets calcified and bad breath is one of the hallmark feature associated with tonsil stones and tonsil stones are commonly seen in patients who have repeated bouts of tonsillitis..

Many a times tonsil stones do not require any treatment but if there are associated with symptoms like bad breath and other problems like sore throat ,swallowing difficulty Surgical removal of tonsils by an ENT Surgeon is done along with it antibiotics and painkillers are also given to prevent infection and pain and ease the discomfort..

As of now you can start gargling with 1:1 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water..
Always gargle after eating anything..
Drink plenty of water..
