What Does Posterior Disc Bulge & Protrusion In MRI Suggest?

i am 31 yrs old, my weight is 69kgs & my height is arround 176cm. Last monday i was doing my regular excerise, when i bent forward to touch my toes with hand suddenlly i suffered a jerk in lower back, after that i was not able to get up, entire day i lied on my bed. After consulting with docter he advised me a injection( dolmex), after getting that injection i was able to walk , but i was not able to bend forward, nor i was able to sit properlly. Today i got my MRI done in which following findings are observed.
" mild posteror disc bulge is seen at L4\5 level intending the thecal sac & bilateral descending L5 nerves"
"diffuse disc bulge with mild posterocentral disc protrusion at L5\S1 level intending the thecal sac & compressing bilateral descending S1 nerves more on the right" .
Kindlly advise how serious is my problem & how can get back to normal.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

There are small spongy discs between the small bones in the spine. These discs should be aligned in a normal fashion to allow various movements in the spine and also provide cushioning. In your back the discs at level L 4 - L 5 is bulged backwards and this might be due to trauma. This is causing pressure effects on the S 1 nerve roots which leave the spinal canal at that level on both sides.

It is a mild problem but you may need rest f the pain is significant. You may try doing physiotherapy and avoid lifting heavy weights. This problem will not heal completely but if you take precautions, the progress of the problem will be slow and you will still be able to continue with your daily activities without much troubles. You can enjoy a normal life but be aware of your back and do not take part in intense physical activities.
