What Does Pain In The Upper Thigh Indicate?

I went to sleep feeling fine, but woke a couple hrs later to sever pain in the outside of my upper thigh, near hip. I went to my local Urgent Care who exrayed it for possible fracture and inflammation. Exrays returned normal and showed only very mild arthritis. It has been three days now and I can barely walk. The onset happened quickly with no previously injury or trauma to my hip area, could a blood clot be a possibility?
