What Does Pain In The Thighs And Calves Indicate?

Hi I am a 60 year old woman. I have been checked for Lymes disease that came back negative and I have been taken off Lipitor. I have thigh and calf aches accompanied by outer hip knee and top of feet pain which does not appear to be joint but maybe to me tendon or ligament pain? I have had mild headaches which I never get headaches. And fatigue.

1. Although lipitor [atorvastatin] does cause muscle pain, the phenomenon is poorly understood and may cause either muscle pain-fatigue or weakness, it might be the reason of taking you off of the statin by your doctor.

PS. although muscle pain could be caused by the drug, it might be caused by something else, also some people are more likely to develop side effects from statins, including muscle pain, i.e. those having following risk factors:

. smaller body mass, impaired kidney/liver function, age above 60 years [present], diabetes. [so check the values]

2. get an appointment with an Orthopedic surgeon regarding your symptoms [since at your age]:

i. hip discomfort could be because of hip osteoarthritis, AVN [avascular necrosis], bursitis
ii. whereas pain/ discomfort in calf area could be due to DVT [deep vein thrombosis], PVD [peripheral vascular disorder] or simply because of cramps in calf [due to diabetes, calcium/salt deficiency]

PS. The symptoms have to be carefully assessed by your doctor to ensure that whether it requires immediate medical attention or long-term therapy.
