What Does Pain In The Right Leg Indicate?

I have been told I need hip replacement surgery in my right leg. However, my left leg gives me more pain especially at night. I am a side sleeper and cannot lay on either side without pain going all the way down my leg, surrounding my knee and down into my foot. The only relief I get is flat on my back. Could this be sciatic nerve pain or vascular problems?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

No, I don't think it is due to sciatica because pain of sciatica will remain or worsen on supine position. Possibility of musculoskeletal pain is more likely. So better to consult orthopedic doctor and get done X-ray and MRI of both hip joint. You may need bilateral hip replacement surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
