What Does Pain In The Neck After Strength Training Indicate?

I exercise regularly doing yoga and stretching along with cardio (HIIT) and strength training using resistance bands and kettle bells . Recently I have been getting this shooting pain up through the left side of my neck and thru the bone behind the left ear. I do not have any headaches or other symptoms. Could this be a strained muscle. Thanks

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It could be posterior nerve root compression. It might have affected the muscles also that it supplies. It is a typical course which you are describing.

There may be something which is damaging the nerve over there. Too much stretch or bad posture might have caused this.

This will take 1 to 2 weeks to heal and it won't go off suddenly. It is better for you to take painkillers for 3 to 5 days at least to get rid of the pains.

Painkillers like paracetamol, ibuprofen, tramadol, pethidine, etcetera can be taken by anyone. It will subside soon in a week or so.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
