What Does Pain In The Hips On The Left Side Indicate?

My son is experiencing extreme pain in his left hip down through his leg. He is very overweight and is having trouble walking, sitting, standing, even lying down. I want to take him to the emergency room but he is fighting me - no insurance. What can I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern.
Some advices that I can give to you are :
-Rest. The first thing is avoiding the activities that cause the pain.
-Ice. Applying an ice pack to the area where you're feeling the pain can reduce inflammation and make your hip feel better.
-Compression by wrapping a thick Ace bandage around the pelvis and hip.
-Elevation.
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help, thanks!
I find this answer helpful
