What Does Osteo-degenerative Changes In The Joints On The L 3 To S 1 Bilateral Levels Indicate?

Hi, I've been complaining of abdominal pain on the right side. The doctors at first thought it might be a gal bladder stone(s), but after a few scans showing non conclusive stones, I was sent for a MRI. The report says that there is osteo-degenerative changes in the joints on the L3 to S1 bilateral levels. What does this mean?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

Osteodegenerative changes means degenerative changes in your spine which are most likely due to aging. There are small bones at the lower back. In you the bones at levels L 4, L 5 and S 1 show these degenerative changes and there might also be pressure on verve roots due to degenerative disc disease at these levels. You may need to take physiotherapy and restrict any high intensity physical activity that may put the bones and discs at your lower back to stress.
