What Does My Ultrasound Result Indicate?

Hi, I just received my us results. There is a 3.5 cm cystic structure with a few scattered internal echoes in the rt ovary possibly a complicated ovarian cyst. Other etiologies are not excluded. Uterus is heterogeneous. I also have nabothian cysts in the cervix. Does this mean I should prepare for a hysterectomy?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

It is important to know how old you are and what symptoms made you go to your doctor and get the ultrasound scan done. A 3.5 cm cyst in ovary is one that requires further followup and treatment with medications. Any clinical problems need to be analyzed in detail and it is possible that this cyst is a benign one. Any previous history of ovary cancer in your family is important and if present then you might have to get few blood tests done. Hysterectomy is not indicated as you have no problems with your uterus and the one in ovary is a minor one. Nabothian cysts in cervix are not a concern.
