Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does My Thyroid Ultrasound Test Report Indicate?
I just received this diagnosis and our doctor is on vacation. Would you kindly let me know if the results of this test are worrisome: Thyroid Ultrasound - Impression: Heterogeneous & diffusely hypervascular thyroid gland w/ bilateral nodules. The largest is a mixed solid echogenic nodule in the left mid to lower pole. Suggest correlation w/ thryoid function studies. Consider FNA of the largest nodule on the left.
Your thyroid ultrasound imaging says there are nodules on both sides of thyroid gland. Now, your T3,T4,TSH values are important to decide if you are hypothyroid or hyperthyroid.
Always fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAC) is used to confirm the following: 1) If the nodule is hypo or hyperthyroid 2) If the nodule is homogeneous or heterogeneous 3) If the nodule is cancerous
So, the ultrasound imaging must be followed by thyroid function tests and biopsy to plan for treatment. Please do consult an endocrinologist for further evaluation.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
