What Does My Liver Function Test Report Indicate?

will Nyquil affect liver test? Doc told me was one elevation on routine yearly blood test, so asked me to take another test in 30 days, no etoh 10 days before test, order reads ALT live test. Have had bad cough, been taking one dose Nyquil last about 4 nights, and today took one dose Dayquil. Wife pointed out that they have etoh in them. Question is, does that count as alcohol ingestion, so should I wait another ten days after I m done taking Nyquil (not going to stop until cold gone, it s a life saver at night!). Other useful data may be: Prior to blood test had been light etoh consumption say about 7 beer a week, but prior to that over the summer, too much beer, probably about 14 beer a week (beer I drink is rarely above 6%, usually below 5%. I exercise enough, but about 25 lb overweight, I ll lose weight I promise. And I have very good diet, though eat too much. I don t smoke. No drugs. Only med is Concerta, 36 mg, one 30 tab bottle lasts about 4 months. Thank so much in advance. And have a good day, take good care of yourselves, I wish you medical professionals didn t have to work so hard and didn t have to do so much paperwork. Thanks so much in advance!

Hello,

You have a history of taking beer since a long time. Good to know that you don't smoke or do drugs. Alcohol is always hard on the liver. Liver disorder affects your entire system. Since your blood report shows elevated level of liver enzymes and have to go for a repeat test after 30 days, you should be careful to detox liver and not load it with wrong eating or drinking habits. Yes, take your time, let the liver detox before taking the next test since you are already taking Nyquil. Do not get addicted to Nyquil, take it only when required.

To detox, taper alcohol intake gradually. Take boiled food, food that is easily digested. Avoid red meat, take lean meat, small fish, well cooked home made food. Avoid taking anything raw for a couple of days. Take adequate water and sleep. Avoid spicy, junk, packaged or frozen food. Cut on full fat dairy products, cheese, etc. Take more veggies, fruits, berries and well cooked whole cereals. Your live function test reports indicate that you need to take care of your liver so that you stay healthy and fit, wise & cheerful. Neglect will only lead to worsening of the symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
