What Does My Lipase Test Result Indicate?

My 80yr old mother s lipase result showed it was elevated after a visit to the ER last week for a swollen foot. ER doc sent her for an US. Pancreas result shows generalized heterogeneity with small cysts . CT sa an has been ordered so we re just waiting for an appt. Tonight my mom has a final bleeding. Pad looks as if there s clotting (like she has her period). She s not complaining of abdominal pain it I think the bleeding just concerns her (and myself)

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Heterogeneity of echotexture of pancreas may be due to multiple reflector brightness, usually due to calcification, a sign of chronic pancreatitis. Similarly, increased lipase level is present in acute pancreatitis. Hence, your mother seems to be suffering from some derangement of pancreas.
However, she needs a further evaluation of her condition with regards to pancreas as well as uterus (As she is having bleeding per vagina also). Just for a further diagnostic work up, perhaps, she has been advised a CT scan rightly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
