General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
The rubella test is used to detect antibodies in the blood that develop in response to a rubella infection or immunization.
Rubella is a viral infection that is usually mild and marked by fever and rash that last about 2 to 3 days. The infection usually resolves without treatment.
However, if a pregnant woman contracts it for the first time during the first three months of her pregnancy, rubella can cause serious complications in the developing baby (fetus).
A positive rubella IgG test result is good, as it means that you are immune to rubella and cannot get the infection.
A negative rubella IgG test means you are not immune to rubella.
Kindly consult with your Gynecologist for an opinion on immunization of mother by means of vaccine, if it was necessary and would be helpful. If there is active infection, she needs to be treated and monitored carefully.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
