What Does My Blood Test Result Indicate?

I received a letter stating my blood work came back with an elevated c-reactive protein and sedimentation rate, additionally an ANA test was performed and is described as being positive. This can indicate an underlying connective tissue disease. Does this mean I possibly have Lupus? Should I be worried until I can get in to see my doctor? Please help ease my mind, thank you for your help on this matter. Jodi Boardman

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi!
Welcome to HCM!

As per the laboratory results mentioned in your case are highly suggestive of a chronic inflammatory disorder like connective tissue disease.
Lupus erythematosus is characterized by severe fatigue, painful or swollen joints, rash on cheeks and nose called “butterfly” rash hair loss anemia and
blood-clotting problems.

There is no one single diagnostic test, but screenings that can help your doctor come to an informed diagnosis.

You are advised to consult a rheumatologist for further management.
Regards!
