What Does My Blood Test Report Indicate?

Hi, my wife is 23 years old and she had the NT scan test on her 12 the week after completion of 2 days. NT value measures 2.6 mm. Now we have asked to do the double screening blood test. Is 2.6 mm value for her age indicates high risk of down syndrome ? And also please let me know what are the indicators we should look in the blood test report and what are their optimum values.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The NT value of 2.6 mm is a bit elevated for this gestational age but doesn't mean that foetus is with down syndrome. The bitest needs to be done.

You should check BHcg levels which in down syndrome are much elevated. Also, you should check PAPPA which in down syndrome foetus are much decreased.

The test will give you a probability of the risk that your baby may have down syndrome.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
