General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your wife should apply ice cubes wrapped in cloth over the painful area 3 to 4 times a day. Usually the pain is due to spilled blood inside the skin which will naturally go away in 4 to 5 days. If it is still swollen or blackened after 4 to 5 days, go to your physician for further treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Abhijeet
