What Does My MRI Scan Report Indicate?

Hello, I am going for an MRI tomorrow which was referred by my Internist because I ve had severe neck problems which seem to be affecting different areas in my body like: pinch nerves in neck, stiff neck, muscle spasms in legs at night, impingement on shoulder, etc. Also my lumbar is very tender and hurts sometimes. I cannot carry heavy things and my lower back gets sore for just about anything. I also have osteoporosis. But my insurance has denied the mri for the neck and I will only be able to have the lumbar tested. My Dr. thinks I may have spinal compression. I am wondering if the lumbar test shows I do have spine compression, will that also tell that it could be affecting the neck area as well even though I did not get tested for the neck? I am hoping that the test can somehow reveal that the neck is being affected. Please advise. Thank you

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Usually the lumbar and cervical areas are affected similarly. It means that cervical and lumbar spine are affected by similar diseases and usually in same patient. So we can get some idea form the report for the ailments you have.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
