What Does My CT Scan Test Result Indicate?

A recent CT-UR revealed bilateral lower lobe pleural-parachymal scarring and later, states that in late phase testing, there are areas of Corticomedullary Hypodensity distributed throughout both kidneys. What would this indicate? I had a traumatic puncture wound by drywall screw through the left lower flank which may have had asbestos in it as well as a blunt injury. Could this be mesothelioma?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The findings of scaring are sign of healed infection in past, whether evident clinically or remained dormant however, the signs of mesothelioma are not present significantly specially with absent of pleural effusion or weight loss etc. For reassurance pleural biopsy might be needed which is not necessary at this stage. The corticomedullary hypo density may be a sign of chronic kidney disease and that may necessitate renal function tests, urinalysis for protienuria as well as ultrasound KUB and if all unremarkable, a renal biopsy is recommended.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards,
