What Does My CT Scan Report Indicate?

My mom has recently been having a lot of the signs and symptoms of Ovarian cancer. She went to get a CT and they found masses on both of her ovaries. The CT stated that the largest mass was 3cm in diameter and that they were low-density cystic lesions . She then went to get a transvaginal ultrasound but has not gotten the results yet. They also said on the CT all of the other abdominal organs looked fine, as though nothing had spread. My questions is does this sound like cancer? I felt like low density lesions would mean fluid filled and therefore not cancer....

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
The CT scan of pelvis shows presence of low-density cystic ovarian masses bilaterally.
Ovarian cysts can be benign, borderline and malignant.
Surgical excision is the treatment for any kind of ovarian masses.
Ovarian masses have to be considered malignant until proven otherwise.
The excised ovarian masses have to be examined pathologically to look for evidence of malignancy and its extension.
Thus, consult your gynaecologist for clinical assessment and review of CT scan to plan further work up.

Thanks and take care
