What Does Muscle Weakness In The Hands And Legs Indicate?

My grandson is 10 years old and had a flu shot about 3 weeks ago. He is having intermittent muscle weakness in his hands and legs. Good him to doctor. Did blood work for muscle inflammation. All came back good. Could this be related to flu shot. He has also been on Focalin since September.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your description your grandson is on Focalin. Focalin is the brand name of the drug Dexmethylphenidate. It can rarely cause increased fatigue and generalized weakness. That may be one possible cause. Consult your pediatrician for expert opinion.

Wishing you good health.
