What Does Moderately Differentiated Adenocarcinoma Mean?

Dear Sir,

my mother has undergone colonoscopy result and she got following report from pathologist.

Specimen:

Biopsy from recto sigmoid region

Macroscopic Description:

Bottle marked colonoscopy biopsy: Received four irregular grayish brown friable soft tissue fragments measuring from 0.3 to 0.5 cms – 4 all

Microscopic Description:

Sections show fragments of large intestinal mucosa and one fragment of tubulopapillary neoplastic lesion composed of hyper chromatic and plemorphic columnar cells with vesicular nuclei and occasional prominent nucleoli against a desmoplastic stroma with focal infiltration of smooth muscle bundles. In some areas parts of a villous lesion lined by stratified columnar epithelium is seen

IMPRESSION::

MODERATELY DIFFERENTIATED (GRADE II) ADENOCARCINOMA ARISING FROM A VILLOUS ADENOMA, BIOPSY FROM RECTOSIGMOID.



Please advice where to take my mother for further treatment and we have shown her to gastrologist and i need your help to consult doctors in chennai

I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
Your mother has colon cancer
Its of intermediate grade. You should consult oncosurgeon. Go for surgery and after that she should take chemotherapy. Consult your doctor and plan accordingly.
