Hi, Bowel movements in baby may be at once per day to as frequently as each breastfeed. Baby stools are usually soft until other foods with breast milk has been started. If the consistency of the stool changes such as solid, pellet like, it may be due to constipation. If the stool is watery with substance in diaper, it may be diarrhea. When the diarrhea is associated with fever, blood or mucous in stools indicate that there is infection. Antibiotics are necessary along with hydration for better outcome. Take the child to the pediatrician for physical examination for further evaluation. Three bowel movements per day is consider normal when the consistency is normal. Take care.
