What Does Lipid Profile As Total Cholesterol 338 Suggest ?

Hi I am 45 years old Man from India, goes to gym thrice a day and work out mostly on cardiac exercises like treadmill, cross-trainer etc.. I do treadmil jogging at 8 kms per hour for about 20 minutes comfortably. Recently there was a camp for complete Lipid Profile test arranged by Gym people conducted by "Throcare Lab", which is quite famous here in India.. I too got my test done but after having sweet tea with biscuits and bread-butter slice..The Results showed as :Total Cholestrol: 338: HDL:56.56: Triglycerides: 800: LDL:182.50; VLDL: 160.I am quite concerned about my Triglycerides, which is very very high..My question is: 1)Is this report correct & 2) How much values vary if test is done after 12hours fasting???Thanks

Hello Jagrut
Thanks for writing to HCM

I have gone through your findings in detail. You are suffering from dyslipidemia.

It is not only related to physical activity. Many other factors do influence it.
I think your reports are correct and you should start taking medicines.

New studies suggest that there is no alteration in results in fasting or non fasting blood sample.

You need few other investigations like routine hemogram,Random blood sugar(RBS),Liver function test(LFT),Renal function test(RFT),utrasonography of abomen.

You may need hypolipidemic drugs like atorvastatin after full investigations.

It is good that you are so active in your daily life.
You should avoid red meat and high fat milk products.
Cook food in olive or canola oil.
You should take limited salt in your diet. You should also avoid fried and junk food.
Take lot of fruits and vegetables.
Don't take stress in life. You will be fine.

Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your question.
Further queries are most welcome.

Take Care
Dr.Indu Bhushan
