What Does Light Pink Spotting When On Depo Shot Suggest?

I am on the depo shot. But for the last 2 weeks I ve had light pink on the toilet paper when I wipe after I pee. My urine is a normal color. I ve randomly had pink spotting but nothing to wear a pad for. I just restarted depo after taking 2 years off of it. I never had this issue the last time I used it as birth control.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have light pink spotting when on Depo spot. A high dose of the hormone progestin gets delivered from the birth control shot. Spotting or irregular bleeding is the most common side effect of the birth control shot. After the shot the body needs time to grow accustomed to this new level of hormones in the body.

For some women the first few months with the birth control shot are typically the worst regarding side effects and symptoms. For many women, that side effect often goes away over time while some continue to have it for quite some time. Some may not experience side effects at all.

With each injection after your third or fourth injection, your body knows how to respond to the increase in the level of the hormone and you may notice few to no symptoms after the body has adjusted. However, to be on the safer side, get yourself examine by a gynecologist to detect any developing polyp, fibroid or endometriosis. Your treatment will depend on the diagnosis made.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
