What Does High AST Level Mean? Can Hepatitis Shot Affect Result?

I m looking into accutane for my acne and had a pre-blood test done. My AST level is high at 107 and was wondering what this means. I had a hepatitis shot and 3 days later my blood test. Did the shot affect the results? I have my derm appt in a few days and want to know what to expect.

Hello,
I assume you meant a hepatitis vaccination. AST is an enzyme that exists in many tissues. I can't tell for sure having only a single AST value but judging from the rest information that you provided, it's very likely the "side effect" of an intramuscular (IM) injection. IM injections cause muscle damage and muscle damage causes AST to rise. If the rest tests are normal then it's probably just that. ALT and CPK would help to clarify things even more.
