General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

There are discs that are found between the vertebra (bones of the back). These discs have different functions, including preventing the bones from rubbing or pushing against each other and also helping to distribute the pressure in the back.

The discs contain water, desiccated means that they are drying out, the water content is reduced. This would make them narrower and affect their function. It would contribute to pain in the back. There is also protrusion of a disc between L2 and L3 vertebra. The facets are areas with parts of the vertebra connect, there are changes (arthritic changes), noted here.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
