Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM,
I carefully read your question and understand your concern.
It is normal for women to have cysts in the ovaries. it is a common finding and not necessary a problem.
In some cases the number of the cysts in each ovary and location might be important and suggest need for work up. A common cause of many small cysts in the outer part of the ovaries is a common syndrome called
PCOS. It generally causes problems with periods which might be irregular or later than a month or lighter than usual.
If you have a hemoragic cyst and painful periods this might be an index of
endometriosis. Endometriosis is a condition that can cause very uncomfortable time with periods with strong
abdominal pain.
In both cases you will need medical attention and get medications that relieve pain in the case of endometriosis and in case of PCOS you might need a blood work up to start with.
You need to speak with your doctor on these. In case none of these is the diagnosis he considers than very likely there is nothing to worry and you are healthy.
It is very common to have cysts in the ovaries especially 2 cm and under- we call them functional cysts. If they are 2-4 cm, they just need observation and above 6 cm is a need for more medical attention.
Hope this is helpful and answers to your question.
