What Does Granulomtus Lesion In Right Frontal Lobe With Surrounding Edema Mean?

Dr.Sir,
My son (age17) was affected with convulsion on 12.12.2010 while he was playing football. Immediately his co-players shifted to nearest hospital. Their doctors advised so many pathological tests which found normal. But with Contrast CT Scan it is found (as per radiologist) chronic granulomatous lesion in right frontal lobe with sorrounding edema ? Neurocysticerosis (Celloid Vescular stage)
D/D- Tuberculoma
Finally the medicine specialist prescribed following medicines:
1. Omnacortil 50mg and tappered to 10mg for 5 x 4 =20days
2. Eptoin 8hourly
3. Rebermac-DSR
And with advise to a neurologist.
Neurologist prescribed
1. Zentel

Welcome to Health care magic.

1. The features in the contrast enhanced computer tomography reveals granulomatous lesion with surrounding oedema - possible cause is neurocysticercosis.
2.Infection which leads to extra-intestinal disease (including neurocysticercosis) usually occurs as a result of eating food or drinking water contaminated by human feces containing T. solium eggs. This is distinct from the 'normal' life cycle in which the undercooked pork is eaten and the larval cysts contained within mature into adult intestinal tape worm.
3.Different stages are - 1. Vesicular 2. Colloidal vesicular - earlier with treatment and the cyst fluid becomes turbid. As the membrane becomes leaky oedema surrounds the cyst. This is the most symptomatic stage. 3.Granular nodular - oedema decreases as the cyst retracts further; enhancement persists. 4.Nodular calcified - end-stage quiescent calcified cyst remnant; no oedema.
4.Granuloma is a calcified structure from a dead parasite. Similar features are seen in case of tubercular cases after infection.
5.Treatment include - anti parasitic treatment.

Hope it helps you. Wish you a good health.
