Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Excessive Sweating And Nausea In An Elderly Person Indicate?
My mom is 88. She slept good all night but when she woke , after about 15 minutes she felt sweaty and and had a feeling like she was going to throw up. She has no other symptoms. Doesn t feel weak, tired, hot or cold, nothing else. Now it seems like her symptoms are passing.
Is she having any chronic disease like diabetes or ischemic heart disease? Any dizziness / light headedness associated? Any regular medications she is on?Acute onset of excessive sweating and nausea suggest autonomic nervous system activation.
This can happen in situations like hypoglycemia (from prolonged fasting or diabetes drugs), postural hypotension or myocardial stress in patients with heart disease. But if it was just transient, and she is absolutely fine otherwise, we need not worry as it is already getting down. If symptoms come again, kindly take her to doctor for evaluation.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
