What Does Enterococcus Faecalis In A Vaginal Culture Report Indicate?

Hi. I recently went to the urgent care clinic and the wet mount slide showed a moderate amount of clue cells. I had them do a culture and it came back with a small amount of enterococcus faecalis. I am taking flagyl for the bv and now prescribed amoxocillin for the e. Faecalis. How common is it to find e. Faecalis in a vaginal culture?

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic forum. I understand your concerns.

This is pretty common and this means that it came from intestinal environment to vagian. It may mean that there is infection but also that there is just contamination. If you dont have aby symptoms of STD such as associated pain, fever, urethral discharge and recent sexual intercourse then this is probably just contamination and no further treatment is required. Otherwise, you may need antibiotic treatment for 7 days. I think that in this case there is no need for treatment, just repeat test in 2-3 weeks.

I hope I have answered your query.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
