What Does Echogenicity Of The Hepatic Parenchyma Mean?

I have a friend who s son received a report that shows areas of the right kidney that are echogenic to the echogenicity of the hepatic parenchyma. He needs to see a specialist, but she is very stressed because the doctor wouldn t tell her much. Can you give me any insight as to what this is?

Hi,

Echogenicity means the ability of a tissue of an organ to reflect or to let through the echo beam. The finding given means kidney is same in echogenicity as that of liver. Usually kidney is similar or hypoechoic than liver and appears darker. There is nothing to worry however, you might need few tests to rule out if there is any underlying issue or not.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
