What Does Congestion Below The Throat Indicate?

I have mild congestion right below my throat....bronchial tubes? I am coughing some what. No fever, no sore throat, however, a bit of a headache. (this is just starting) I would like to know what I can start taking to nip this in the bud. I am a 71 yr. old female. Thank you. Marguerite Stine

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.

It seems very likely you are having a viral infection developing and to help with it you may take ibuprofen and paracetamol to help with pain and also drink plenty, eat healthy and make sure you rest. Sometimes adding some vitamin C is thought by some to help build the immunity- it is something to try.
If you get shortness of breath than you will need to see your doctor immediately as severe allergy can be the cause of your symptoms and in this case you would need proper and timely medical attention.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj, MD
