Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

During the initial phase of TB there will be blood in sputum. If there is large amounts of blood or if there is frank blood then you need to consult your doctor. As the treatment goes, within a couple of weeks these symptoms will subside and she will feel better. Some important tips you need to educate your mother in law:
1. Complete the full course of your TB medications.
2. Stay at home especially during the first two weeks of treatment.
3. Cover your mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, and wear a face mask when around people during the first few weeks of treatment.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
