What Does Choroid Plexus Cyst And Enlarged Renal Pelvis As Shown On Ultrasound Mean?

Hi Doctor, Level II Ultra Sound found a right choroid plexus cyst and enlarged right renal pelvis (4.1mm) at 19 weeks. At 23 weeks, we had a follow up sonogram and the cyst is shrinking measuring 2.5x2 mm. The right renal pelvis measured 3.8 mm and the left 3.3mm. In addition, a mild caliectasis was identified in the left kidney, but no evidence of hydronephrosis. Should I be concerned? I have not heard from my doctor. Is this something that can potentially correct itself. I was told that issues with both kidneys is a marker for down syndrome. Initially we were told about the enlarged kidney, but now there s the issue with the normal kidney. Thank you for your time and feedback.

Hi,
Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic.
The choroid plexus cyst will shrink on its own with time. During early stages of pregnancy, sometimes it is identified but normally it shrinks over time. In your case it is shrinking so there is nothing to worry. Just get a follow up done after 1-1.5 months and it would have shrunken more.
About the renal pelvis dilatation, upto 10 mm is normal and more than 10 mm is worrisome and pathological. So 3-4 mm is nothing significant and you should not worry. It is not a marker for Down's syndrome.
These things will potentially correct on its own and you will have a healthy baby.
Hope it sorts your problem.
