What Does Cardiomegaly With Aorta Ectasia Suggest?
Hi my husband is 43 years old. Take 81mg baby asa, norvasc 10mg an simvastatin 40mg all QD. He recently had a full body scan through his work that showed mild cardiomegaly and ascending aorta ectasia 3.5cm. He has a father who died of a MI at age 54, grandfather died at age 52 of a MI and a cousin who died from a brain aneurysm at age 38. I want him to see a cardiologist. He was told by the radiologist that its not that big of a deal.
Hi welcome to HCM, These radiological findings in your case warrant further work up in the form of 2 dimensional echocardiography.Your husband is at risk of developing ascending aorta aneurysms considering aortic ectasia of 3.5cms.This is supported by strong corroborative evidence of family history of heart diseases in his father and grandfather reflecting brain aneurysm. He should immediately refer himself to a cardiologist and cardiothoracic surgeon.Treatment includes lowering of blood pressure by antihypertensives.Definitive treatment includes aorta surgical repair.Consult your doctors for further queries. thank you
