What Does Burning Sensation In The Throat And Mouth Indicate?

I have a fairly severe burning sensation in mouth and throat. I also am suffering from depression and anxiety, which increased tremendously due to these physical symptoms. The burning in mouth and throat began after a dishwasher leak that required removal of vinyl floor and underlayment. Contractor failed to mitigate dust which spread from kitchen into the rest of house and into ductwork through HVAC system return air duct. The water damage also affected ceiling in wake out basement. Water mitigation company dried this out and said it was fine, just needed repairing, but that the floor was not dry and needed removing. Symptoms became so severe I left my house to stay with friends, but symptoms followed me. I noticed that when I stuck my face in luggage or personal items I had brought from my house it caused an immediate severe burning sensation in mouth and throat. I have no nasal, eye, or skin symptoms. My doctor prescribed Claritin, saying I have sinus drip that is irritating throat. and also prescribed anti-depressant (Zoloft) and referred me to a psychologist because I was experiencing so much distress. I have begun to have panic attacks when the burning feeling occurs. It is worst at night, when I am sleeping in a guest bedroom filled with my possessions. I went to the ER and the doctor diagnosed it as GERD or acid reflux and prescribed a protein pump inhibitor (name of which I can t recall). I have returned to another family doctor at my clinic, who said it s possible I have an allergy to pine or wood dust and has referred me to have esophagus scoped. He also is doing a 24 hour urine test and is doubling the strenght of my Zoloft prescription. I am to follow up with my original family physician on Friday. I need advice on what to do. When I reenter my home I get a burning sensation too. We are waiting on a general contractor to do repairs to water damage and then plan to have duct work cleaned and carpets and furniture cleaned. But I am so sensitive, or so it seems, that any dust or whatever it is that settled on my possessions triggers this burning feeling. My doctor thinks it is more psychological, but I am not so sure given how sudden the feeling is. Any advice?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Your symptoms appears to be due to burning mouth syndrome..
However it is more prominent due to continuous focussing on it as well as your anxiety is exaggerating the condition..
So first of all you should just relax.
Start doing meditation regularly under supervision of a trainer..
Learn yoga and deep breathing exercises..
Try keeping yourself busy in work and you will notice that you will have less severe symptoms and you will feel better..
For burning sensation start sucking lozenges that can numb the mouth and ease the burning..
You can also gargle with Lidocaine mouth wash..
Suck ice pops and do cool water rinses..
Take Vitamin B complex supplement daily..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
