What Does Brown Vaginal Discharge Indicate?

I took a shower and noticed a brown stringyness inside my vagina. There is no noticeable smell or oder, I have no cramping or anything. It seem to went away for few days. Then today after I get in shower I noticed it more. Seemed to have couple dark specs in it. Is it an sti or vaginal infection?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Are you near your date of menses? Do you have any other symptoms like itching/dysuria or anything else? Since you didn't mention any other symptoms there might be less chance for infection but its better to rule out the diagnosis so, I advise you to take a smear examination and consult a gynecologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Indhu Priyadharshini
