What Does Blister Formation 8 Weeks After Burn Injury Suggest?
Hello, It s been 8 weeks since my second degree burn injury. It seem to be healing nice at first then all of a sudden last night blisters appeared and my burn and it started to itch. I cleaned the wound thinking the bandage my have caused some irritation and the itching calm down but the blisters are still there. I don t know if the blisters are a good thing or bad thing. My doctor is on vacation so I was wondering if I can get some feed back. Thank you
Blister formation after 8 week of burn injury is a part of healing process. New skin is formed underneath the affected area, the fluid is absorbed.
Do not puncture a blister, you will irritate & may infect it. The fluid-filled blister keeps the underlying skin clean, which prevents infection and promotes healing.
You can apply a thin layer of ointment neosporin or soframycin cream on the affected area to avoid potential infection.
If needed you can visit ER, get it cleaned and antiseptic dressing done. Continue to take your prescription medicines.
Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K
